RENEWAL @ Melt Gallery, Prince Edward County

Spring heralds the return of nature’s lush colours, and awakens the creatures which call the great outdoors home. These limited edition acrylic prints, the latest additions to the Unseen Neighbours series, reflect the vibrancy of the natural world and its smallest inhabitants.

In ‘Golden Bliss’ we bear witness to a honey bee’s exploration as its pollen-coated posterior hurries into the depths of a golden squash flower. ‘Petallica’ shows us the curious bronze face of a jumping spider peeking out from amongst a voluptuous mass of scarlet dahlia petals. ‘Touch Grass’ highlights the beauty of a simple blade of grass as it provides a gentle incline for a resting fruit fly.

Inspired by the season’s bright new possibilities, these three artworks represent a renewal of my approach to entomological portrait photography, replacing monochromatic drama with bold bursts of colour that celebrate the hidden daily lives happening all around us.

All images are 19x13in and printed on acrylic. Show runs from May 16-June 15.
